So I have a little secret... we have a new basement! Like strip it down to cement, build it up from the ground, and now it is the looks beautiful kind of basement. We didn't plan on getting a new basement. When we bought the house it was finished, however four months after moving into we discovered a host of problems, and those problems took much longer to fix than expected.
The timeline went something like this.
The timeline went something like this.
- September 2013 - find mold and water in our basement
- May 2014 - start the demolition ourselves, make pretty good head way, the Boy cuts through a water pipe with a saw so we call in the pros
- September 2014 - the contractor finishes demolition
- November/December 2014 - finally start on the remodel
- January/February 2015 - make a ton of progress
- March 2015 - all the finishing work is complete, and I host a shower for 50 ladies the day after the basement is finished. Yes, juice was spilled on the carpet!
Since the timeline drug along so slowly we weren't sharing too much about the renovations. However, now I can't wait to show it off!
Since we literally took down every wall in the basement, redid all the plumbing and HVAC it allowed us to redesign the layout of the basement. We love the new look so much more!
I don't have a ton of pictures of the old basement, but you can tell it was time for an update.
Since we live on a farm it was really important you could come in our front door and head straight down stairs with your dirty boots or clothes. This built in allows us plenty of extra storage, and the floor is very easy to mop down. The door on the right-hand side leads to our laundry room and more storage. Although the floor looks like wood it is actually vinyl! We call the color Skye because our pup blends into it perfectly.
We considered putting in a full bar, but felt this side bar would be much more useful, and so far that has held true. It makes entertaining so much easier. We will eventually be changing the furniture as my old sectionally doesn't quite fit the space. The wall color is Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter, which we later found out is one of the most popular Pinterest paint colors. The color literally goes with everything.
I love how the bathroom turned out. I really wanted to have an enclosed toilette so that one day when we have kids someone can be doing their business while the other one is showering or getting ready at the sink. This navy color is Benjamin Moore Hale Navy. You can also check out my Bathroom Pinterest inspiration board.
We only begun to set up one of the two bedrooms. I know it's only a small detail but we love our window wells! That "brick" it actually just a sticker over corrugated metal. We got the inspiration from Mark and Jenny Rohrich of Prairie California as they were building their new house and used the same wrap. Plus, it saved us a ton of money!
Now it is time to start adding in furniture and getting some artwork on the walls. Where is your favorite place to shop for home decor and accents? I love looking at artwork on Minted and scouring the aisles of Home Sense.
Gah!!! It's gorgeous! I love the colors and flooring - so warm, but contemporary too. As for wall art - most of our walls are covered in framed Buck Taylor prints. (Or similar prints...since we live in Pendleton, we have almost every poster from the rodeo....and Buck does those as well.) I have them all framed at Hobby Lobby. They have two frames I love (their barnwood and pecan wood) and everything we have is framed in one of those two woods.....I also stick with three colors of mats (a mottled brown, a lighter suede and a navy)....that way I can mix and match prints all over the house, and since they're all framed similarly - they all go well together!
ReplyDeleteLove the remodel! As for art, I love great family portraits or a cool cattle/landscape photo.
ReplyDeleteLOVE it! I want MORE BIG pictures of the bar/mudroom area, though!!!
ReplyDeleteI will work on doing that just for you Katie!
DeleteThis looks great, Crystal!! And the line about how after Jon cut through a water line with a saw you called in the professionals cracked me up!
ReplyDeleteLol, we aren't super handy people! Unfortunately, I married someone just like my dad.
DeleteLooks great Crystal!! Genius idea to have easy to clean flooring down to your laundry area from the backdoor! Work smarter, not harder. I think you should print some of your instgram pics to put on the wall for sure. You should think about incorporating some historical pictures from showing or farming that you might acquire from your or J's family! I just hung a panoramic photo from 1975 that my grandparents are in and just love it!
ReplyDeleteI love a good redo project, the basement looks awesome! It's modern, yet clean and inviting.
ReplyDeleteLove it! It looks so bright for a basement! I'm considering that grey color for our main upstairs area, it's pretty popular. Love your wood tone doors with the white trim too... that's what I want and it's a little hard to find pictures of.
