Why I Left My Job

I have always had a pretty clear sense of direction. When I graduated from college I knew I wanted to work in corporate America. I knew I wanted to climb the ladder. And I did just that.

But at some point there was a shift. The thing that once brought me so much happiness didn't anymore. It was leaving me feel out of balance. There were too many glass balls in the air and I knew I had to make a chance before they all shattered.

I haven't ever shared this story publicly before, but this September marks one year of being fully out of corporate America and my four year anniversary of being a part of the social retail company Keep Collective and the Stella and Dot family of brands.

I have been fairly certain that I made the right decision, but it was when I saw my new headshots that I take take this summer I instantly knew. I don't think I have seen a photo of my that has so much joy in it. Everything that I have been doing to strengthen relationships, work on my mental health, the place that I am in my career... it all radiated joy. And that is what life should be about.

In this episode of Squad Life, I share my five tips for finding success in any career or side gig.

1. Develop a network and lean on them.
2. Work really hard.
3. Know that at some point your dream job or life will change, and that is ok.
4. Be brave. Don't let things drag on.
5. Seek advice. Fin those that won't sugar coat it.

If you need a space to come hang out so that you can find inspiration, joy and have a little fun. Be sure to check out Crystal's Squad Insider's.

Squad Life: Defending the Work From Home Gig

Is part of your life a work from gig? 43% of Americans that work a full-time job also have a side gig. According to the 2017 US Census, 5.2% of workers in the US worked from in 2017—or 8 million people. I bet when the next census comes out that number rises.

If you don't work from home it can be hard to "get it". You might not quite fully understand what we do at home all day. There is also a phenomenon out there that once a mom's children are of school age that mother should go back to a job outside of the home. I actually had no idea that was even a thing until I talked to a few of my mom friends, including Ally Billhorn.

Ally is a successful food blogger at Sweet and Savory Eats. She has spent 10 years developing recipes for brands and her blog. She also recently launched Bread and Butter an all in one meal planner, grocery list and recipe book. I personally love Bread and Butter because of its small size (fits in a purse) and Ally's recipes are so simple and delicious.

In this episode we cover:

  • how to deal with guilt
  • the biggest mistake you are making when you introduce yourself
  • why you can't work for free forever

Squad Life: Most Interesting Woman in the World Sheridan Wimmer

Did you grow up loving the Spice Girls? I sure did. As soon as I found out Sheridan had made the trip to London to see them this year I knew I wanted to ask her all the questions. You see Sheridan appears to be living her best life. She will straight out tell you it is unconventional and not the same thing that other women her age are doing but it works for her. This this episode we'll talk about.

  • Why you have to be brave to jump at opportunities
  • What does the phrase "don't yuck on someone's yum means"
  • Why true friendships matter
  • And how comparison never gets us ahead
