How to overcome your thoughts of that's too hard

That's too hard. Have you said that to yourself. Have you ever felt like the thing that you were actually quite interested in experiencing, working towards or accomplishing was too hard.

Or maybe you don't use that phrase, but instead say "I could never do that". You let self doubt creep into your thoughts and prevent you from going after what you really want.

I may look like I have it all together, but honestly these phrases creep into my mind all the time. So how does one move beyond these thoughts to belief and action?

Today it is my turn to be on the podcast. I share my thought on how to overcome the thought of "it's too hard." I start:
  • Why you must be your biggest source of belief
  • Failure is natural and important
  • How to start
  • Make sure you have your prep speech ready
I'm curious how you handle your own thoughts of that's too hard?

Squad Life: How to Get Unlost with Maxie McCoy

I feel like I could have titled this interview with Maxie McCoy it a million things. It could be called Why you need a Girl Gang and who should be in it. It could be called why rituals will help you achieve a goal. It could be called Maxie McCoy: Why I stopped being a sports broadcaster.

This summer while I was at the Keep Collective and Stella and Dot women empower conference I had the opportunity to finally meet Maxie. Her platform is based on her book "You're Not Lost", which I instantly felt in love with on page 3 of the primer because of this....

"You don't need to know where you'll end up in order to begin. Here's what you do need: a deep, deep sense of self-belief."

Oh, and there was this on page five.

"Conventional wisdom taught you that you need to know where you're going in order to begin, but actually, you'll unlock it all by just beginning. You'll start by starting."

In this episode we unpack more concepts from the book. We also talk about why reflection is so information in productivity and achieving goals. Maxie mentions a resource she uses at the end of every year: 25 Questions for Reflection From Last Year.

Squad Life: Why You Should Work with a Stylist like Erin Stoll

Have you ever thought about hiring a stylist? Honestly, I haven't. It has always seemed like one of those luxury things. Kind of like a house cleaner being out of the realm of possibilities. Recently though I have had a mindset shift. I think it is more about letting down your guard and asking for help. There is no shame in having someone come over and clean your house one a week or month. In a recent Instagram poll I actually discovered that over half of my friends have someone come help them clean their homes.

So why wouldn't we have someone give us direction on what we should be wearing? I mean I like to think I have pretty good fashion sense but I too often find myself standing in front of a closet full of items thinking to myself "I have nothing to wear".

Erin Stoll is a midwest fashion addict and owner of Style Thief Fashion, a personal wardrobe styling company. Style Thief Fashion was born from her desire to help women find their unique style so that they always feel confident, and know that they are more than enough. If you follow Erin on Instagram you will instantly feel a sense of encouragement and inspiration.

Erin's recommendations:
Squad: @mommyinheels and @WhatKateFinds
Make Up: L'Oreal Paris Infallible Lip Gloss color Coral Sands
Special Offer: $50 off a Styling with Erin message on Instagram to claim

Breast Cancer as a New Mom with Brooke Clay Taylor

Elope to Montana - check. Hallmark style wedding photos - check. Get pregnant and deliver the most beautiful baby girl - check. Find out you have breast cancer the same day you give birth to that beautiful baby girl - check. Brooke Clay Taylor has checked it all off. She is 32 years old, and has lived a life of joy and adventure, but breast cancer was what was going to really to put her to the test.

With no history of breast cancer in her family, Brooke managed to grow at 6 cm tumor in her breast while growing Elsie in her tummy. Brooke has let her cancer journey be an open book. Through the hashtag #kbyecancer she has united an army that is taking control of their own health and connected other young women with a similar diagnosis. She also needs our support and prayers.

After a successful career in marketing, communications and public relations, Brooke launched her own media and creative business Rural Gone Urban. When you are self employed it might seem like it is pretty simple to give yourself a maternity level. Yet, when you are self employed and you stop working you also stop getting a paycheck. Brooke had a plan in place to be able to still take on those jobs she describes as "being able to do while rocking a sleeping baby" but when you have cancer, and then go through an unplanned surgery for a staph infection and now can't life your arm that throws a kink in things. So does 1.5 hour one-way trips to Tulsa for chemotherapy.

One of the biggest lessons I learn from Brooke's interview is that we are often quick to offer help. But, that help can become almost burdensome if our offer is left too open ended. For someone that isn't used to asking for help or doesn't want to be a pain it can be hard for them to speak up and say, "Yes, I need help and I would specifically like you to come over and help with laundry."

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but there are four simple things you can do at anytime to support Brooke and take control of your own health.

  1. Take the Bright Pink Quiz. This will help you determine what your risk factors are and help you start a conversation with your doctor.
  2. Donate to Brooke's Go Fund Me and follow her at RuralGoneUrban
  3. Purchase a bracelet or lipstick from my Bright Pink Boutique. 20% of the proceeds will go to Bright Pink, and 20% will go to Brooke's Go Fund Me.
  4. Sponsor a warrior bracelet or lipstick to be given to a women fighting breast cancer, plus a donation will be made to Bright Pink and Brooke. Send $29 to paypal.me/crystalblin to sponsor.
Brooke's Recommendations:
Book to Read: 100 Day to Brave
A person to follow: @stacypearcecreative
Make-up recommendation: Tarte Shape Tape Concealer
Brooke's Wigs: Wigs.com and Amazon
Goin Coastal Fundraiser T-Shirt

Do You Need a Coach with Marlene Eick

Have you ever wonder what a life or business coach could do for you? I mean with the amount of self help books and podcasts out there couldn't you figure out that stuff on your own?

Marlene Eick, host of the Live Your Story podcast and business coach, helps put into perspective why you might need a coach to take things to the next level. We also discuss forming adult relationships and why you want to surround yourself with women that will pull you up.

And lastly we talk about why I almost didn't start my podcast. It had to do with so many other friends already having podcasts already. However, I decided if one one ever took the leap because someone else was already doing not much progress would be happening in the world.

You can listen to Marlene's episode below or through iTunes or Spotify

Marlene's Recommendations:
